The word master is often translated in the Bible from the word kurios κύριος with the Strong's number 2962 and pronounced koo’-ree-os. It is from the Greek word kuros (supremacy). As a masculine noun it is translated Lord 667 times, lord 54, master 11, sir 6, Sir 6, misc 4 ways. It is defined as 1) he to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master, lord

This word is also used to produce oikodespotes οἰκοδεσπότης pronounced oy-kod-es-pot’-ace Strong's 3617 and translated householder 4, goodman of the house 4, master of the house 3, goodman 1 and defined simply master of the house, householder.
