Pilate is from the word Pilatos [pil-at -os] of Latin origin; appearing some 55 times and meaning "armed with a spear". Together with the word Pontius, which means "of the sea", he represented the law of the sea enforced at the point of a spear. After all Pontius Pilate was the Roman procurator of the law of Rome in Judea and Samaria. He did order Roman soldier to keep order and crucify Jesus as a false Christ or king according to the judgement and wishes of the Pharisees who controlled the Sanhedrin.
