Numbers 20:8
Moses was a man of action but it got him in a lot of trouble at times.
He was told to "gather thou the assembly together.... and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink." That of curse is not the normal word for rock... But we are led to believe that it was a rock God told Moses to speak to.
But Moses too was a man of action and said "Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also."
But that is not what God wanted so Moses would not be allowed to "bring this congregation into the land which I have given them."
Moses was supposed to teach the people the righteous way of liberty.
Christ did the same, for Christ and Moses were in agreement that we must first love our neighbor as ourselves. That love needs to be a love of action.
- "And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things." Mark 6:34
A shepherd teaches the sheep to come together. Every night the sheep here come up to the trailer and put themselves away in the pen. We go out and shut the gate, not to keep the sheep in but the predators out.
If you want to get rid of the tyrants in the world start with your neighbors who covet their neighbors goods and send their children to public schools at the expense of their neighbor, or seek other forms of welfare like social security or health care from men who call themselves Benefactors but exercise authority one over the other against the words of Christ.
Will men repent?
How do you get them to repent of the Corban of the pharisees that makes the word of God to no effect.
Especially when you can only speak to them.
You cannot use your rod or force men to do right or seek righteousness and expect to lead them to the promise land.
That is just the way it is. I do not make up the rules.
God also talks about the foolish shepherd.
- "And the LORD said unto me, Take unto thee yet the instruments of a foolish shepherd. For, lo, I will raise up a shepherd in the land, which shall not visit those that be cut off, neither shall seek the young one, nor heal that that is broken, nor feed that that standeth still: but he shall eat the flesh of the fat, and tear their claws in pieces.
Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened." Zechariah 11:15-17
It goes on to say in the next chapter verse 6 "In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, [even] in Jerusalem."
It is clear that the people will be devoured if tyranny is in the hearts. Even if they are merely slothful in the weightier matters they will be under tribute and should be until they Repent and seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness.
His shepherds should lead them in that way.
As to the word rock in the verse it is cela which is also translated stronghold and comes from the Hebrew word לס meaning basket. [1]
The first time it appears in the Bible is in this verse. If you change the last letter of this word translated rock which is ע AYIN to the letter ח CHET the word becomes the Hebrew word for forgive.
It is said that this word we see translated rock is from a Hebrew word that does not appear in the Bible but is supposed to mean "to be lofty" which is to be "proud, aloof, or self-important".
I have been tempted to strike that rock which is the hard hearts of the people who care more about what they want than what others need.
But that is not the plan.
I can only say Repent and seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness.
The People must choose to repent... to take up the cause of Christ.... to sacrifice and serve God in His kingdom of righteousness and according to the perfect law of liberty.
