Episcopal see
An "episcopal see" was said to be the area of a bishop's ecclesiastical jurisdiction by the Roman Church[1] or the Church of England.[2]
Phrases was indicative of the geographical significance of the term, making it synonymous with diocese and is derived from Latin sedes, which denotes the seat or chair as the earliest symbol of the bishop's authority. Authority over what since Christ said we were not to exercise authority one over the other?
The symbolism of a chair became known as the bishop's cathedra leading to the use of the term cathedral. Their responsible for many matters may have expanded to include the approval, election and ordination of clergy.
Peter had set the president that it was the people who looked out and chose their ministers and then receive an appointment based on that choice. The approach of an episcopal see based on geography and an election could some counter productive and top down.
