Double Zayin
Double Zayin
Another double letter includes the double Zayin which is found it what is said to be found in the root word גַּזָז gazaz[1] which is said to mean shear but the word גַּזָז gazaz is often inclusive of a deeper meaning and not just those who shear sheep.
We see in Isaiah 53:7 there is a comparison of sheep willing to be shorn without complaint:
"He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers <01494> is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth."
And in Jeremiah 7:29 being willing to be sheared or have your hair cut is symbolic of repentance:
"Cut off <01494> thine hair, [O Jerusalem], and cast [it] away, and take up a lamentation on high places; for the LORD hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath."
Even Laban discover his silver images of his father are gone when he went to shear his sheep which seems odd to say the least.
Genesis 31:19 "And Laban went to shear <01494> his sheep: and Rachel had stolen the images that [were] her father’s."
