Codex Alexandrinus

The Codex Alexandrinus is a 5th-century Greek manuscript of the Bible and one of the oldest and most complete biblical codices.

It contains most of the Old Testament (Septuagint) and the entire New Testament, along with early Christian writings like the First and Second Epistles of Clement.

Originally from Alexandria, it was gifted to England in the 17th century and is now housed at the British Library in London.

  • Codex Alexandrinus (400–440)
  • Codex Ephraemi Rescriptus (c. 450; fragmentary)
  • Papyrus 74 (7th century; fragmentary)
