Asher comes from the Hebrew word osher, which means "happiness".

Asher was the eighth son of Jacob and the founder of the Tribe of Asher. On his deathbed, Jacob blessed Asher, and Moses said, “May Asher be blessed above other sons”.

The tribe was known for their happiness, prosperity in agriculture and trade, and love of good food.

In Biblical Latin and Greek, it's written Aser.
