Savior

Σωτῆρος Sōtēros is the Greek word for saviour. The word sōtēros in Greek is the word that Augustus Caesar applied to himself. He said he was the savior!

He was the Savior of the world of Rome and with his power as Emperor he was able to establish his “Pease on earth,” with his "Pax Romana". He had coins minted with his head on them which were loaned into circulation.

He also set up a system of social welfare through the state run temples. The free bread of Rome was the Qorban of Caesar. Like the Corban of Herod and the Pharisees they were systems of "legal charity" which were the antithesis of the Corban of Christ which based on fervent charity.

Christ was a different kind of savior. The table of Christ set men free but the table of Caesar made men merchandise and often will curse children.

"And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world." John 4:42

It has always been a danger to the liberty to eat the dainties at the table of rulers. Christ forbid His Church to be like those men who call themselves benefactors but but who exercise authority one over the other.

"Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;" 1 Timothy 1:1

"For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:" Philippians 3:20

"Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ. 2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord," 2 Peter 1:1
