A hypocrite is a person who indulges in hypocrisy. In the Old Testament we first see the word "hypocrite"[1] in Job 8:13 "So [are] the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite’s hope shall perish:" The hypocrite is further defined in Job 8:14 "Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust [shall be] a spider’s web."
The hypocrite's hope[2] is folly[2] and his trusted refuge[3] is a snare and trap or a net like a spider's web. This is because the congregations of the people are desolate and full of of bribery.[4]
- Proverbs 14:8 The wisdom of the prudent [is] to understand his way: but the folly of fools [is] deceit.
A hypocrite is characterized by behavior that contradicts what one claims to believe or feel: characterized by hypocrisy said that it was hypocritical to demand respect from students without respecting them in return a hypocritical gesture of modesty and virtue—
A claim to believe Jesus while not being a Doer of His word.
