Modern religion is very lukewarm compared to the first century church. The modern Church and modern Christians do many things the first century Christians were put to death for refusing to do. Modern Christians have very little in common with what the early Christians were doing but yet many of them think they are saved. I do not know of hardly any churches doing what James called pure religion. Partly because they have redefined the term religion and the term faith. I mention the lukewarm in an artcle I wrote about the word faith.

  • Revelation 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

The term lukewarm only appears once in the bible from the Greek chliaros which means tepid but is a metaphor for fluctuating, not committed.
