The word Gentile in the New Testament is most often translated from the word ethnos.[1]

The word is almost always used to describe a nation or multitude of people practicing the same customs and laws. The Romans saw the Jews as Gentiles. It appears a 153 times in the New Testament.[2]


Occationally you will find the word for the Greek nation Hellen[3] normally translated Greek[4] also translated gentile.[5]


There is another word that produces the word Gentiles and that is the word ethnikos [6]. It is expressing the idea of being like other nations. It only appears once in the Bible.[7]
