The city and the nation

Samaria is a historical and biblical name used for the central region of the ancient Land of Israel, bordered by Galilee to the north and Judaea to the south. For the beginning of the Common Era, Josephus set the Mediterranean Sea as its limit to the west, and the Jordan River as its limit to the east.

Samaria was taken from the Canaanites and assigned to the Tribe of Joseph. After the death of King Solomon (c. 931 BC), the northern tribes, including those of Samaria, separated from the southern tribes and established the separate Kingdom of Israel.

The city of Samaria was founded by King Omri around 880 B.C. Peoples: Samaritans. Known For: Samaria was the capital of the northern kingdom of Israel; In the days of Christ, the relationship between the Jews and the Samaritans was strained because of deep-rooted prejudice.

Yet, Jesus speaks of the Good Samaritan.

The Metaphor

Samaria is not just a place but is a who as we see in Micah 1 in relation to the transgression of Jacob and the idolatry of Baal.[1] We also see the mountains of Samaria in Amos 4 which are supposed to be the watchmen who worn the people when they are straying from The Way and going the way of the Nicolaitan.
