Black's Law Dictionary defines "Church. In its most general sense, the religious society founded and established by Jesus the Christ to receive, preserve and propagate His doctrines and ordinances. It may also mean a body of communicants gathered into church order; body or community of Christians, united under one form of government by the profession of the same faith and the observance of the ritual and ceremonies; place where person regularly assemble for worship; congregation; organization for religious purposes; religious society or body; the clergy or officialdom of a religious body."

What is a "society"?

"Society. An association or company of persons (usually unincorporated) united together by mutual consent, in order to deliberate, determine, and act jointly for some common purpose. In a wider sense, the community or public; the people in general..." Black's Law 5th Ed.

What is a "community"?

"Community. Neighborhood; vicinity; synonymous with locality. People who reside in a locality in more or less proximity. A society or body of people living in the same place, under the same laws and regulations, who have common rights, privileges, or interests. It connotes a congeries of common interests arising from associations - social, business, religious, governmental, scholastic, recreational." Black's Law 5th Ed.

What is an "ordinance"?

"Ordinance. A rule established by authority; a permanent rule of action; a law or statute. In its most common meaning, the term is used to designate the enactments of a legislative body or a municipal corporation. An ordinance is the equivalent of a municipal statute, passed by the city council, or equivalent body, and governing matters not already covered by federal or state law...The name has also been given to certain enactments, more general in their character than ordinary statutes, and serving as organic laws, yet not exactly to be called "constitutions". Such was the "Ordinance for the government of the North-West Territory" enacted by Congress in 1787." Black's Law 5th Ed.

What is a "government"?

"Government. From the Latin gubernaculum. Signifies the instrument, the helm, whereby the ship to which the state was compared, was guided on its course by the "gubernator" or helmsman, and in that view, the government is but an agency of the state, distinguished as it must be in accurate thought from its scheme and machinery of government...The system of polity in a state; that form of fundamental rules and principles by which individual members of a body politic are to regulate their social actions. A constitution, either written or unwritten, by which the rights and duties of citizens and public officers are prescribed and defined, as a monarchical government, a republican government, etc. The sovereign and supreme power in a state or nation. The machinery by which the sovereign power in a state expresses its will and exercises its functions; or the framework of political institutions, departments, and offices, by means of which the executive, judicial, legislative, and administrative business of the state is carried on. The whole class or body of office holders or functionaries considered in teh aggregate, upon whom devolves the executive, judicial, legislative, and administrative business of the state..."
