We've hosted a [[Missouri Spring 2013|spring gathering]], in northeast Missouri since 2011 for HHC/The Living Network, where we've enjoyed getting to know some really wonderful people in the Network.

We enjoy heirloom gardening, composting, seed saving, and learning to use our small greenhouse. We hope to expand our efforts over the years to include a u-pick orchard and maybe blueberries and blackberries. If you'd like to share seeds or would just like to have some of ours, let me know and I'll send some to you.

We also enjoy hunting, fishing and basically most any outdoor recreational activity. We have no tv reception, so our entertainment is in the form of good books and movies.

We have been home educators for over 12 years and are constantly reaping those benefits. We have encouraged our children to discover and hone their skills and talents so they will not have to rely on a someone else to provide them "employment". We've been fortunate to live near, and establish relationships with, many amish families. We've been able to learn quite a bit from them and we've grown to appreciate their own efforts to support their families and community. ==Background==

I'm told I arrived in this world in 1968 :) I have a lovely wife, Shannon. We have been together for over twenty years. We have a 21 year old daughter, 19 year old son, 7 year old daughter, 4 year old son, and a baby boy born in January 2015.

I am currently the Minister of Record ([[His Church at Lake of the Oaks]]) for, and an elder served by my elected minister ([[HCLH|His Church at Loess Hills]]). Our hope is that we'll learn how to be better elders and ministers through the process of serving each other.

We've hosted a [[Missouri Spring 2013|spring gathering]], in northeast Missouri since 2011 for HHC/The Living Network, where we've enjoyed getting to know some really wonderful people in the Network.

Since about 2003, we've tried to change our "way of life". In 2006, we sold everything in the city and moved to rural Missouri. This allowed us to get out of debt and to learn to live with what we can afford, when we can afford it. I provide for my family by means of my freelance graphic design services and a small advertising business that involves my whole family. We gave up a business when we moved to the country and we've discovered that without debt, a family can live on very little.

We enjoy heirloom gardening, composting, seed saving, and learning to use our small greenhouse. We hope to expand our efforts over the years to include a u-pick orchard and maybe blueberries and blackberries. My eldest daughter just finished her "formal" high school education. She's taken a few college courses (though college has not been encouraged nor has it been entirely discouraged) and is getting ready to travel to New Zealand for 3 months. My eldest son is an apprentice for a local chef and works during the summer doing lawn mowing and other handyman jobs. I believe he could be a candidate for the order at some point.

===My Hope===

Scripture counsels us to be long suffering/patient, wise and harmless. His commandments are summarized by 1) Love God and 2) Love each other. We're explicitly told not to steal, kill, covet, adulterate or bear false witness against our neighbor. So why not learn to live by honest to goodness charity instead of through the covetous arm/agency of man's governments. If we're going to change from being the covetous, thieving, murderous, lying, adulterers we are, then we've got to step away from the paradigm society has trained us in. There is an alternative to the religions/governments of man. It's His Way that's outlined in scripture.

As a Husband and Father, I am learning how responsibility is key to our Liberty. The more we distinguish ourselves and the more we refuse to access the benefits taken from our neighbors, the more the Kingdom structure becomes important to our survival...Faith, Hope and Charity take on a whole new meaning. I believe with the proper motivations, we can unlearn the corruptions and learn the ways of our Creator/King.

We'd like to find or be found by others in Missouri who are seeking the Kingdom of God. We're determined to order our lives now in the ways of our Father and to strive for His favor and seek His mercy as we take two steps forward and one step back.

==Background==

What does that look like. It looks like people helping people. It looks like people caring about people and being of assistance to them because they love them, not only their family but also their neighbor and even the strangers in their midst.

And love righteousness and desire to righteousness for their neighbor as much as themselves.

This is the way it was meant to be from the beginning. This was what Christ and John the Baptist taught the people and it is what the early [[Church]] did and the [[Church]] in America a hundred years ago.

When people created the [http://www.mercuryone.org/ Mercury One], their goal was to recreate the American spirit that existed in the 1920s. Of course you cannot create spirit. You must live it and those who love that spirit will be drawn to it.

But the social environment of today weakens the people but those who want to do something that will strengthen society and lead back to liberty is only for those willing to seek self government under God.

Some people want a list, guidelines. We have many but for the beginner there are things you can seek to do that will change you and therefore society.

There were lots of people around ''who called themselves [[benefactors]] but they exercised authority one over the other'' to obtain the funds to aid and benefit society. These forced contributions by something called ''government'' was not the only form of government in man's history.

This idea of one class of citizen forcing another to contribute in a common purse is actually rare in man's history according to numerous historians today.

This idea of taking from your neighbor to provide even good benefits for the people was forbidden by Christ and in truth also by Moses and Abraham and even Buddha but the modern societies and [[religion]]s and belief systems of that day and today think it is okay to covet their neighbor's goods to get what they desire as long as you do it through government. We do not.

All the prophets from Abraham to Paul said that we should not covet. Unless the [[benefactors]] of our society operate through systems of voluntarism and free will offerings there will be no peace or security.

We believe that mankind has another option when it comes to the benefits of government and governing themselves. Diligent students of history will and have found that alternative. During times of natural, economic or social disasters men will often discover the practicality of coming together for the sake of each other, but to do that before an emergency or disaster takes place is '''''preparing'''''.

Just a quick note regarding the 2014 Spring Gathering here in northeast Missouri.

We ended up with 70 people attending. I'm probably going to miss some states here, but we had folks in from: Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Arkansas, Kentucky, Ohio, S. Dakota, N. Dakota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Florida, Texas, and Mississippi.

We made a generous donation to the Lake of the Oaks from the free will offerings given at the gathering. That really does help around here, because everything at the Lake is privately maintained including the clubhouse, roads, beach, etc. The people here at the Lake appreciate your generosity. Thus far, I've heard only good things from the neighbors here about the gathering. One lady said someone stopped to ask if she needed help up at the lake entrance. She was just planting flowers, but she commented on the thoughtfulness.

As always, we had a lot of help with cleaning up around the clubhouse and grounds. Thank you!

Our family greatly appreciated the help in putting up a new "dog proof" fence around our garden. One of the CoR families came a few days early and we enjoyed work, play, and fellowship with them. Thank you Jason and Sloan for your help....mucho appreciated!

Everything seems to come together organically. We don't do a lot of organizing and/or planning. People jump in to cook, wash dishes, clean up the kitchen, pick up extra groceries, etc.

We had elders in round table discussions throughout the weekend. There were at least 2 families interested in joining Congregations of Recorded Elders which is really what this is all about.

We enjoyed presentations from Phyllis on hand quilting and wheat grinding. Caleb gave a talk on essential oils and demonstrated raindrop therapy on several willing participants. Bud talked about heirloom farming. John Button spoke about well drilling. Elisheba did health diagnostics and talked about Simply Good Health. There was a small group that got together to discuss Ham radio and broadcasting. There was a small group assembled to talk about building an Earth Ship home. Sloan gave an archery demonstration. We also got to enjoy the beautiful music of Rob. That's just a sample of the many talks and conversations that took place. Many of these folks gave their time tirelessly all weekend without many breaks. Thanks to all of you for helping to make this such a great gathering.

So now we wait until next time when we can do it all again. The Burning Bush Festival is planned for this fall, but maybe there are other opportunities between now and then to gather. We can only hope!

We are on our way home from the Missouri Gathering and had an amazing trip. We met so many new friends and met online friends in person. If you are able to go to a gathering, I encourage you to do so. —Serena

My family would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to all those who attended the HHC Spring Gathering here in Missouri. We have been blessed every year by being able to meet new people, continue growing our relationships with all those we've seen before, and enjoying the fellowship w/ each and every one of you.

We got to meet some new folks this year. We also got to visit personally with folks whom we've known only by phone or email. And, we got to catch up with some of the best people in the world who are fast becoming "old" friends and brothers and sisters. We even survived a little bit of Missouri weather this weekend.

Some of the best things about these gatherings is the time we spend talking in round table discussions -- Elders working out issues face to face. This is a great opportunity to work out plans, sharpen iron, and work on Kingdom govt issues. It's also a great format for building a Kingdom economy.

For all those on the network who've never been to one of these gatherings (either here or in Oregon), I can't really explain what you're missing. I can try and others can too, but unless you come it's hard to explain. All I can say is - - you're missing out.

Hopefully we'll have some more families share their experiences and we'll be posting some pictures over the next week or so.
