Israel was a nation chosen to serve all people as priests. What kind of priests? The Hebrew word kohen is translated as “priest” 744 times. It is also translated “own” twice, “chief ruler” twice, “officer” and “princes” once each. It is defined as “priest, principal officer or chief ruler” and could mean a pagan, or Levitical priest, or even a priest-king. Jesus was such a priest after the order of Melchisedec, but he ruled, not with the rod of iron like Rome, but with love, service, and humility. He was the Prince of Peace.

This was an amazing concept in government, where no employed minister would get paid unless his constituents thought he was doing a service and those ministers were directly answerable to, at least, 10 constituents, yet autonomous.

It was a system of responsibility, charity, faith, and hope. It was not a government of self- indulgence, sloth, pride, and arrogance. Why would the people ask for a central government, knowing that guaranteed entitlements granted a reciprocating entitlement to the ruler of that system; knowing that your ministers would be appointed from the top down; and knowing that your goods and the firstfruits of your labor would be taken for its purposes; knowing that your sons and daughters would become human resources serving that government.

Giving power to a central authority, and having that same authority appoint the servants of government, relinquishes a responsibility required of the people in a truly free society. Such granted power corrupts the leaders with that same power and the people with apathy. Despite God’s warnings, men continue in pride to imagine that they can control such constituted governments. From Saul to Rehoboam, all of the rulers of God’s kingdom violated the constitution of Israel and its remnant, Judea.

The priesthoods of nations like that of Abraham, Moses, John the Baptist and Jesus and certainly the early Church advocated a Daily ministration that was dependent on Charity only and it was not like the system of Corban of the Pharisees and Rome.

Priests and other Administers of the people

Most people and religionists today including many modern theologians and ministers do not understand what was meant by a priest, who they were and what service they performed for society in ancient times. There are men all around that still provide the same services of the priests of old, but you no longer call them priests nor even ministers.

As a matter of fact, you do not find them in what you call church today. You find those administers in government buildings, which makes perfect sense because the early Church was “one form of government” too. The ancient Temples were often supported by government taxes and provided services that today are provided by governments.

You see, although the word religion is defined today as what you think about a supreme being, just two hundred years ago religion was defined as the performance of your duty to God and your fellowman. That duty included coming to your neighbor's aid in time of trouble.

The Church use to take care of the needy of society by charity freely given to the ministers of the Church who used those funds in a Daily ministration from house to house without any assistance from the constitutional orders or systems of government. In fact this is the very definition of Pure Religion. This is why Jesus told us stories about good Samaritans and condemned the Corban of the Pharisees.

The Church was appointed by Christ, and its called out ministers were its public servants. These ministers formed a body politic, one form of government.[1]

They could not exercise authority over the people like the Benefactors of other governments of the world but depended upon the people for freewill offerings of the people to provide for the people according to their needs. In other words God taxed the people in their hearts and minds and through charity that government was supported by their freewill offerings.

The Temples of governments back then hated Christians and accused them of robbing them because the most generous givers moved to The Way of Christ as it was more fruitful.

Today's priests and administers work at the welfare office and social security and run the schools of modern government just like they did in the government Temples of Rome.

Kohen

Israel was a nation chosen to serve all people as priests. What kind of priests? The Hebrew word kohen is translated as “priest” 744 times. It is also translated “own” twice, “chief ruler” twice, “officer” and “princes” once each. It is defined as “priest, principal officer or chief ruler” and could mean a pagan, or Levitical priest, or even a priest-king. Jesus was such a priest after the order of Melchisedec, but he ruled, not with the rod of iron like Rome, but with love, service, and humility. He was the Prince of Peace.

The original role of the priest came from the first-born son of the family, who managed the common funds of the family for the benefit of all its members. The priests of a nation were very much the same. Israel was a kingdom, not a religion. It was a system of faith, but all governments are systems of faith or fidelity, established for the welfare of the people, accepting, in exchange, a portion of their loyalty or allegiance. A Godly government is based upon the precepts of a brotherhood of love and charity and not upon demands and force.

For almost 400 hundred years, Israel had been a powerful nation with no central government, no compulsory tax, and no police force or standing army, other than an organized brotherhood of free citizens. The dominion and civil power was in the hands of the individual families. Patriarchs ruled their own families. With the law in their hands, they came together in a union of community consensus and national brotherhood.

The first-born of those families were the priests within the family, but the priests and ministers of the nation were chosen from amongst the first-born of a nation, which, as a people, were called the Levites. God said that they were to open the matrix of the nation. They belonged to God the Father[2] with separate civil communities or cities.

The people ruled themselves. But the people voluntarily came together in a series of small groups or congregations.[3] Ten elders of families would gather together to choose a representative who would be in service to those families. Ten of these ministers, in turn, would choose their administer, who were the elders or princes of the tribe and, eventually, the nation. The same pattern was played out in the Levites’ charitable ministration to the tents of the congregation.

"… the Levites… they shall go in to wait upon the service of the tabernacle of the congregation:" Numbers 8:24

Both the elders of the nations and the men who followed their lead were the right hand of government. Those elder Levites, chosen by the congregation and then by other Levites, had no personal estate. They could not own real property in their own name. They were a separate civil jurisdiction unto themselves. This was the left hand of the governing system of the Kingdom of God, Israel. Neither had authority over the people. They were men respected in their service. They were titular in their offices.[4]

"Take [it] of them, that they may be to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; and thou shalt give them unto the Levites, to every man according to his service." Number 7:5

Why would the people ask for a central government, knowing that guaranteed entitlements granted a reciprocating entitlement to the ruler of that system; knowing that your ministers would be appointed from the top down; and knowing that your goods and the firstfruits of your labor would be taken for its purposes; knowing that your sons and daughters would become human resources serving that government.[5]

From Saul to Rehoboam, all of the rulers of God’s kingdom violated the constitution of Israel and its remnant, Judea.[6]

They had forgotten the despotism of Egypt and had grown weary of the individual responsibility of a free state. After only a few kings, Israel divided as a kingdom under Rehoboam. Most of the people forsook the kingly line of David and abandoned the centralized civil powers. The people desired “Those days when there was no king or central government in Israel, and every man did what he believed was right in his own eyes.”[7]

The people called for a return to the free dominion of their own tents or household.

"So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither [have we] inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents." 1 Kings 12:16

The people were divided by their own sin. There were a series of corrupt kings and vanquishing captivities with short periods of repentance. Finally, God took away the promise of the seed of David ever prospering again upon the throne of God’s kingdom.

"… for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah." Jeremiah 22:30

Priests as servants of the people

The original ministers of Israel were the Levites who served the Congregations of the people.

Those servants who managed the contributions of society for its benefit in fulfillment of that duty were often called kohens or priests[8] at one time but are more often called bureaucrats today. A priest is “a person authorized to perform the sacred rituals of a religion” but religion use to be defined as “the performance of your duty to God and your fellowman”. That is duty has been pursued either through systems of free will offerings or or sacrifice or they were provided through compelled offerings directed by men who rule over the people; in other words either through Church or state.

The word priest is also defined “as a mediatory agent between humans and one or more deities.” Ancient altars of Abraham and Moses was part of their welfare system that bound the nation together. Through sophistry those sacrifices turned into mindless religious rituals which provided little services for the people.

The priests were not mediators between God and the people but mediatory agents. An agent was “a person or business authorized to act on another's behalf:” While mediatory is merely “ to serve as a medium for causing (a result) or transferring (objects, information, etc).” Israel was a theocratic republic where God was to rule through the hearts of the people. The Levites as priests of that society served the “tabernacles of the congregations” which is just the same as saying they served the tents of each family in free assemblies. Those assemblies donated to the minister of their choice who acted as a voluntary health, education and welfare agency to help care for the needs of society through a network of ministers supported entirely by freewill offerings.

The elders of each family were both priests and kings within their own family but to come together as a nation required some one to act as as priest on a national level. The people were gathered in congregations of ten but they shared what the produced with the national priests of their society to help maintain the community and strengthen its natural bonds.

Such systems of voluntary assistance in society require the people to be diligent in their practice of virtue and their duty to their fellowman. The Levites as a national priesthood were not originally meant to burn up animals on piles of dead stone but the were a government institution designed serve the public as a medium for causing the transfer of the offered sacrifices to those truly in need as the deserving poor.

The Pharisees had it wrong but other religious groups reading the exact same Torah at the time of Christ would have little or nothing to do with the bloody mindless rituals of the Pharisees. The considered the Pharisaical interpretation of the sacred scriptures to be a fiction and a fraud.[9]

The Church and the Church in the wilderness were always required to perform a duty to the needy of their society but provided those benefits by free will offerings, while civil institutions provided those benefits and services by compelled offerings imposed by the ruling judges of those societies.

This was the central division line between Christians an other welfare systems of the world. This was the key element between the Christian conflict with the world governments.

One of the reasons the politically established religious faction of the day at the time of Christ wanted to crucify Him was because of the conflict between those who promoted a socialist welfare system run by a government that called themselves a benefactor but exercised authority one over the other and the appointed Church of Jesus the Christ who operated by faith, hope, and charity through the perfect law of liberty.

Meant to be Priest to All Nations

All nations knew that the care of the afflicted was essential to create the bonds of society. To aid a fallen comrade in arms or in life has always been a social obligation of honor. Cain, Lemech, Nimrod, Pharoahs and Caesars of the world had one way and Abel, Enoch, Abraham, Moses, the Prophets and Jesus had another.

All those who know the LORD should know that God wants you to care for the needy by love, and there is no love without choice. The right to choose is the liberty endowed by God. God's "way" has always been by Freewill offerings through a network of national servants like the Levites in the days of Moses[10] and to the international dispersed ministers of the Church in the days of Jesus Christ and His Church.[11]

It was one of the major jobs of the Levites to attend to the business of social welfare and those who have the heart of God would easily see this in the Biblical text.[12]

The tithe given to the Levites was in support of their government, for there were no kings in Israel. The people supported the Levites and funded their mission the same as taxes do today. Their mission was not like the other nations, but to "all nations", which is seen as the sacrifice of the Red Heifer. Taxes pay for the everyday administration of the people who provide service of the government. They even supply aid for foreign nations also, like the Red Heifer sacrifice.

  • "The Levites did everything from attending the tabernacle/temple, judging disputes, diagnosing illnesses, being the judicial system, etc. The Levites also operated their ‘social welfare’ system from the tithe money, when necessary."[13]

In effect they were tending to the Weightier matters, including judicial and legal appeals, as well as health, education and welfare.

People debate whether or not we should tithe in the New Testament Church. If you do not tithe, how will your society provide those essential services? The answer is taxes, which is tribute. This is why the Slothful should be under tribute. It is because they choose not to provide for those Weightier matters of Christ through Freewill offerings.

  • "The so called Levite tithe... was to be contributed annually, according to Numbers 18: 20-32;[14] according to Deuteronomy 14:28-29[15] and 26:12-15[16] the term was to be only every three years and to the priests. The texts cited show very clearly that from the outset, it was a matter of social-welfare contributions."

The Library of Qumran: On the Essenes, Qumran, John the Baptist, and Jesus, By Hartmut Stegemann

  • "For Israel, the practice of social welfare is about choosing not to be like Pharaoh and choosing to follow God." God, Justice, and Society: Aspects of Law and Legality in the Bible By Jonathan Burnside

Most citizens of nations pay far more than the 20% required by Egypt through their Corvee system of their yearly service to their government, yet they do not want to call it the Bondage of Egypt, but freedom.

Corban was always social welfare funds used at the discretion of the Levites. The better they did, the more people gave, but if the people did not freely give, neither would the Father in heaven bless them.

God's government was not dependent on the ownership of land but on the faithfulness of the People. In truth, God's government was to show all nations that the ways of love and charity were the best ways to govern a nation. All nations had to be both forgiving and generous to remain a free nation. The same responsibility of being a priest to all nations and to the faithful was true with the early Church which worked daily in the temple [17] and spread the message of righteousness and the Perfect law of liberty.

Christ is my minister

Many people suggest that Christ did away with the system of ministers and we are all ministers. Of course it is clear that Christ not only trained minsters but he appointed them a kingdom or government.

  • Genesis 17:1 "And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I [am] the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect."

Abraham was to walk in The Way of God to become perfect. We are told the same in Matthew 5:48 "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect."

Jesus did terminate the kingdom in the hands of the Pharisees and did not like their offerings because they were making the word of God to none effect. But he told them he was going to appoint that kingdom to another and He did just that.

Jesus was going to have a new order according to that order of Melchisidec.

  • Hebrews 7:11 "If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need [was there] that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?"

People understood that this appointed kingdom was a government and gave regularly to the ministers of their choice.

Abraham tithed to the order of Melchisedec who was the righteous King of Peace because he was the head of a voluntary system of government that did not force the offerings of the people like Saul, Nimrod, or Cain and Caesar.

We are obligated by the Father in heaven to dress and keep all that He gave us including our neighbor. The way He has always done this was by living altars of Clay and Stone.
Abraham, Moses and Jesus all appointed such altars of unhewn stone.Jesus as high priest and king took the kingdom away from the Pharisees who sat in the seat of Moses by the words of their own mouth and appointed it to another. The Potestas, Imperium and Auctoritas of government belongs in each family, in the Pater Familias, where God intended it to be.[18] We gather in hope of His redemption.

So Jesus established another priesthood after the order of Melchisedec and the apostate priests and ministers which did not understand what Aaron was doing was going to pass away. The twisted interpretation of the Torah and the false teachings was coming to an end.

The early Church provided local and international aid through men like Paul and Barnabas and others.

We are obligated by the Father in heaven to dress and keep all that He gave us including our neighbor. The Way He has always done this was by living altars of Clay and Stone.

Abraham, Moses and Jesus all appointed living altars of unhewn stone, unregulated men. But the people with God dwelling in their heats and minds organized themselves so that they could serve one another in the name and character of Christ.

Jesus as high priest and king took the kingdom away from the Pharisees who sat in the seat of Moses through their claim to have no king but Caesar. and appointed those ministers in hope that people would be perfected in Him in hope of their redemption.

The Potestas, Imperium and Auctoritas passes from generation to generation. If your natural father sells that right he may be snared as surety for debt and you will not inherit it. This is why Israel was still in bondage 400 years after the actions of their ancestors and it is why people are in bondage today and cannot just free themselves or redeem themselves.
