The Book of Leviticus is about those "He called" to become the Church in the wilderness and their instructions concerning the seeking of the kingdom of God and the way of the righteousness of God for the the exercise of Pure Religion for the people in free assemblies and the priests in a network of Levites. The Called out of Christ would also institute a similar system of Lively Stones of a Living Altar through a daily ministration of fervent charity to provide all care for early Christians who would not eat at the tables of the social welfare system operated through the temples of Rome and the governments of the world because David, Paul, Peter warned that those dainties were a not only the wages of unrighteousness of a Corban that made the word of God to none effect but were also a snare and a trap that was capable of entangling the masses as captives and merchandise through covetous practices again in the bondage of Egypt. They knew that the free bread of those systems of the word were provided by men who called themselves benefactors but exercise authority one over the other.[1]
3. If his offering <07133> [be] a burnt sacrifice <05930> of the herd <01241>, let him offer <07126> (8686) a male <02145> without blemish(tamiym תָּמִים‎)[2]: he shall offer <07126> (8686) it of his own voluntary will <07522> at the door <06607> of the tabernacle <0168> of the congregation <04150> before <06440> the LORD <03068>.
An atonement is thought to be the reparation for an offense or injury : satisfaction.
In the Bible we see the Hebrew word for atonement is Kaphar (כָּפַר).[3] ‎The same letters also produce the word village (כָּפַר).[4] and the word ransom kopher (כָּפַר).[5]
Exodus 30:16 "And thou shalt take the atonement money of the children of Israel, and shalt appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; that it may be a memorial unto the children of Israel before the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls."
Understanding the social welfare role of the priest including the Levites is essential in understanding the purpose nature of the sacrifices of the people.
14V If an offering to the LORD [be] of fowls, then he shall bring<וְהִקְרִ֨יב qarab 07126> his offering[6] of turtledoves < הַתֹּרִ֗ים hattōrîm [2] 08449>, or of young< בְּנֵ֥י bənê 01121> pigeons<הַיּוֹנָ֖ה hayyōwnāh 03123>.

Laws for Burnt Offerings

1 And the LORD called unto Moses, and spake unto him out of the tabernacle of the congregation, saying,

2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any man of you bring an offering[6] unto the LORD, ye shall bring your offering[7] of the cattle, even of the herd, and of the flock.

3 If his offering[6] [be] a burnt sacrifice[8] of the herd, let him offer a male[9] without blemish[2]: he shall offer[7] it of his own voluntary[10] will at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD.

4 And he shall put his hand upon the head of the burnt offering; and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him.

5 And he shall kill the bullock before the LORD: and the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall bring the blood, and sprinkle the blood round about upon the altar that [is by] the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

6 And he shall flay the burnt offering, and cut it into his pieces.

7 And the sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire upon the altar, and lay the wood in order upon the fire:

8 And the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall lay the parts, the head, and the fat, in order upon the wood that [is] on the fire which [is] upon the altar:

9 But his inwards and his legs shall he wash in water: and the priest shall burn (קָטַר‎ qatar)[11] all on the altar, [to be] a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.

10 ¶ And if his offering [be] of the flocks, [namely], of the sheep, or of the goats, for a burnt sacrifice; he shall bring it a male without blemish.[2]

11 And he shall kill it on the side of the altar northward before the LORD: and the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall sprinkle his blood round about upon the altar.

12 And he shall cut it into his pieces, with his head and his fat: and the priest shall lay them in order on the wood that is on the fire which is upon the altar:

13 But he shall wash the inwards and the legs with water: and the priest shall bring it all, and burn (קָטַר‎ qatar)[11] it upon the altar: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.

14 And if the burnt sacrifice for his offering[6] to the LORD be of fowls, then he shall bring his offering[6] of turtledoves < תֹרִ֛ים ṯōrîm [7] 08449>, or of young pigeons.

15 And the priest shall bring it unto the altar, and wring off his head, and burn (קָטַר‎ qatar)[11] it on the altar; and the blood thereof shall be wrung out at the side of the altar  :

16 And he shall pluck away his crop with his feathers, and cast it beside the altar on the east part, by the place of the ashes:

17 And he shall cleave it with the wings thereof, but shall not divide it asunder: and the priest shall burn (קָטַר‎ qatar)[11] it upon the altar, upon the wood that is upon the fire: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.
