| V1 "a little folly"(סִכְלוּת)[1] is costly[2] for wisdom (in administration)[3] [and] glory, honour, glorious, abundance(מִכָּב֖וֹד)[4]. |
| V2 A wise man's heart is at his right hand(לִֽימִינ֔וֹ)[5]; but a fool's heart at his left(לִֽשְׂמֹאלֽוֹ)[6] . The word form of "left" only appears in Jonah 4[7]Jesus had something to say about the left and the right hand.[8] |
| V3 "A fool walketh by the way, his wisdom faileth" because when he does as the fool it darkens his mind so that he cannot see clearly. |
| V4 "If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave (normally יָנַח but in this text we see תַּנַּ֑ח TavNunChet) [9] not thy place; for yielding ((healing) מַרְפֵא)[10] pacifieth(the same root word for leave יָנַח YodNunChet is changed here in the text where we see יַנִּ֖יחַ YodNunYodChet) [9] great offences." The teacher/gatherer equates this foolishness with a ruler or the spirit of one who rules. Saul was a foolish ruler when he forced a sacrifice with the right hand of his power as king. He rose up against the right of the people to choose to give. |
| V5 There is an evil which proceedeth from the ruler that is an error(Begins with a Kaf and includes a double Gimel (כִּשְׁגָגָ֕ה))[11]. What was the error of Saul and the error of the pharisees which made the word of God to none effect? Was it their Corban? What did Jesus say about the governments of the gentiles who exercise authority? |
| V6 Folly is set in great dignity(elevated), and the rich sit in low place. |
| V7 "servants upon horses" The king was not to multiply his horses, which is to say he was not to raise an army against the people. According to Deuteronomy 17 that was to be written in your constitution. But here the servants multiply horses. The bureaucracy itself becomes the army. They become the swarms of office that eat out the substance of the people. They are the locust. This of course makes the people who are suppose to ne the "princes"(וְשָׂרִ֛ים)[12] of the government of, for, and, by the people[13] to be "walking as servants(bondsmen)". |
| V8 "He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it;" is another metaphor like the table that a snare, the the one purse that is a net, the biting that gets you devoured. |
| V9 Our own actions put us in danger. We fail to see[14] one truth and many others may fall on us. The word reove actually 0means to quarry. And in the phrase "cleaveth wood" we see cleaveth from baqa‘ 01234 BeitKufAyin בָּקַע appearing as bōwqêa‘ BeitVavKufAyin בּוֹקֵ֥עַ.That formonly appears here and in Isaiah 63:12 descrubung Moses "who divided" waters. The word for wood is ‘ets 06086 normally spelled AyinTzadik עֵץ but here we see ‘êṣîm AyinTzadikYodMem עֵצִ֖ים. The text ‘atsam עָצַם is a primitive root increased, mighty and is said to mean "to be vast, to be mighty, to be numerous" but also "to shut (the eyes), close (the eyes)." And we see the same letters עֶצֶם ‘etsem 06106 meaning bone. |
| V10 We must seek righteousness like a sharp knife or the work will get harder.[15] |
| V11 People speak of their own mind and ambitious heart instead of their God's heart. This is usually because they cannot forgive someone. We cannot see the heart of God[16] with out forgiveness. Unforgiveness is the poison of the serpent for their heart is cold. |
| V12 What comes out of your mouth?[17] |
| V12-15 is about the words of the foolish mouth that brings a man to endless labor in the cities of blood because he would not hear the anguish of his brother or share a portion with the poor. |
| V16 Woe when the king is a spoiled child and the princes eat before they labor destruction comes. |
| V17 fir strength biḡḇūrāh (בִּגְבוּרָ֖ה)[18] and not drunkeness ḇaššəṯî (בַשְּׁתִֽי׃)[19] |
| V18 slothfulness in the way of righteousness cause the people to degenerate.They idleness (ūḇəšip̄lūṯ (וּבְשִׁפְל֥וּת))[20] of the hands in righteousness is the result of their covetous practices.[21] |
| V19 "but money answereth all things." Many commentaries struggle with this verse.[22] But the root word KufSomechPei (כֶּסֶף) translated money in the text appears as wəhakkesep̄ VavHeyKufSomechPei(וְהַכֶּ֖סֶף)[23] is from a differnet root word word spelled the same KufSomechPei (כֶּסֶף) but translated desire or long meaning to long for. There is a word in the text which is not translated, ḥayyîm (חַיִּ֑ים) which mean life or alive. Is this verse about money answering all things in life or the yearning and desire of your life bringing an answer. |
| V20 Again we see the warning to "Curse not the king ... nor the rich"[24] in your thoughts or secret places. This is basically telling you what not to yearn for or desire evil or harm to come to the childish king or the New world order or whatever Great Reset lurking in the world. Don't blame the powers that be that reign over you. Or return to the bondage of Egypt and the unrighteous mammon is the result of our covetous practices and sloth in The Way of Christ. |
| Remember there is no chapter break in the original text and the very next verse is telling you what you should do. |
| Ecclesiastes 11:1 "Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days." And in fact, it is the theme of the whole story of Acts. |

A little Folly makes wisdom stink
1 Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly(סִכְלוּת)[1] him that is in reputation[2] for wisdom[3] and honour(מִכָּב֖וֹד)[4].
2 A wise man's heart is at his right hand; but a fool's heart at his left.
The fool's wisdom fails
3 Yea also, when he that is a fool walketh by the way, his wisdom faileth him, and he saith to every one that he is a fool.
4 If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for yielding pacifieth great offences.
The evil error of rulers
5 There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, as an error which proceedeth from the ruler:
6 Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in low place.
7 I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth.
Dig a pit for your trap
8 He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.
9 Whoso removeth stones shall be hurt therewith; and he that cleaveth wood shall be endangered thereby.
10 If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.
11 Surely the serpent will bite without enchantment; and a babbler is no better.
12 The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.
The effect of a fool is mischief
13 The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness(סִכְלוּת)[1]: and the end of his talk is mischievous madness.
A fool cannot be told
14 A fool also is full of words: a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him?
15 The labour of the foolish wearieth every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city.
16 Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!
When the kings son is noble
17 Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!
For sloth and idleness
18 By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through.[21]
19 A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things.
Curse not the king
20 Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.
