What is this first song of the Bible really about? Are we to rejoice when our enemy falls?[1] Are they singing about something else?
According to Benson's commentary "Its figures are bold, its images striking, and every part of it calculated to affect the mind and possess the imagination. There is nothing comparable to it in all the works of profane writers. It is termed the Song of Moses, Revelation 15:2-3"[2]
If we already are misled or even deceived about the consistent message of the Bible and the Law of Nature's God and Divine will which includes a divine design called the law of the LORD we will likely not understand this Song of Moses in Exodus 15.
Matthew 7:12 "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets." Golden rule
When Joseph's brothers sold him into bondage they went into this bondage of Egypt where the masses often degenerate because of their appetite for benefits and their habit of receiving them by force and violence of rulers become tyrants and eventually oppresive. When Moses saw himself becoming a tyrant he fled to Midian. When Pharaoh threatened to kill Moses who was the rightful heir to the throne of Egypt his own first born's life was forfeited. Now, In Exodus 14:5 we saw "the heart(לְבַ֨ב)[3] of Pharaoh and of his servants was turned[4] against the people, and they said, Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us?"
This is the Law of Nature according to the God of Creation and the Natural Law. It is right reason in a universe of cause and effect.
The Israelites did not have to fight the Egyptians if they had the faith in God. They did not really have that faith yet. Few people do but we see that kind of faith here and there amongst the Church in the wilderness and we will see it again in the early Church.
Again it is written, Matthew 7:1 "Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again." Luke 6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:" As we judge so shall we be judged.[5] This is how the Kingdom of God works if we will seek it and The righteousness of God which is not the righteousness of men.
This is why the people need to learn to take care of one another without the Leaven of Egypt, the cruelty and violence or force of a welfare system based on the men who call themselves Benefactors but exercise authority, without the covetous practices and desire for the dainties of rulers who use force to take from others to serve themselves, for such practices will draw all into the dark depths of the Red Sea.
V22 Being thirsty in the desert can be a common theme. In Jeremiah 2:13 we read "For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, [and] hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water." Jesus talks about a living water.
John 4:10 "Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. 4:11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?"
If you are going to learn the Song of Moses and the Song of the Lamb you will need to understand that Jesus and Moses' "statute" are telling us about the same thing. How is Moses crying unto the LORD so he was show what to do?
V8 "the waters were gathered together[6] , the floods stood upright[7] as an heap[8], and the depths were congealed[9] in the heart of the sea." Because of the reference in Exodus 14:V22 and V29 "a wall[10] unto them" some people will try and tell us that the water formed vertical walls or heaps on both sides of the dry land and use verse 8 here in Exodus 15 to argue that point. While some translations may seem to support that position the actual words in the Hebrew text do not validate that conjecture. Even the phrase "congealed[9] in the heart of the sea" seems to contradict that hypotheses.
V25 begins with Moses crying out to the LORD, "the existing one", in Spirit and Truth and a solution comes to him. He knew where to get the answer, where he had to go to hear the answer and he cried out in a way that allowed the answer to come to him. Then Moses put before the people how things work. Is Moses making a statute or is he informing the people of a principle decreed in the Law of Nature by nature's God? Does Moses want to usurp God and rule over the people by making laws, statutes and ordinances? The phrase translated "there made" in V25 is said to be composed of two different words sham[11] suwm[12] but they are written by Moses identically as שָׁ֣ם שָׂ֥ם In fact the last part of this verse before we start V26 is seen even in the Paleo Hebrew as "שם שם לו חק ומשפט ושם נסהו׃"[13]
Moses is merely trying to inform the people of the "Law of Nature" from the beginning of creation which is seen over and over in the Bible Scripture and even in many other ancient scripts of other religion for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear. Of course there are those who will try to falsify the Truth with their own private interpretations.
V25 Here we see the word ḥōq (חֹ֥ק)[14] translated statute with the English word ordinance translated from misphat[15] which is normally seen as mishpat (מִשְׁפָט) MemShinGimelTet but appears in the text as ūmišpāṭ VavMemShinGimelTet (וּמִשְׁפָּ֖ט).
The term mishpat is almost always translated judgement and is from the verb shaphat ShinGimelTet (שָׁפַט‎)[16] meaning to judge. The Mem suggest the flow of judgement in this cause and effect creation which by Right Reason suggests a singular design.
This term ḥōq translated in the King James Bible here as statute is from the root word chaqaq(חָקַק‎) containing a double Kuf said to mean decree or inscribe but often translated lawgiver.
We seen where we are told to Judge not for "God is judge"[17]
V26 being diligent in the principles Moses is demonstrating is being diligent in seeking the Kingdom of God and the righteousness of God.[5]
But if you take up the cruelty and grievousness which is the Leaven of the Egyptians and put heavy burdens on your neighbor through legal charity and other practices of unrighteousness instead of the care for one another through pure Religion then plagues will come.
V27 In Elim there are twelve wells and 70 palm trees. There were twelve tribes and twelve Apostles and of course Moses and Jesus would eventually appoint 70 people which are known as the Sanhedrin.

The Song of Moses

1 Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

2 The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him.

3 The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name.

4 Pharaoh's chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea.

5 The depths have covered them: they sank into the bottom as a stone.

6 Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O LORD, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.

7 And in the greatness of thine excellency thou hast overthrown them that rose up against thee: thou sentest forth thy wrath, which consumed them as stubble.

8 And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together[6] , the floods stood upright[18] as an heap[8] , and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea.

9 The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.

10 Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them: they sank as lead in the mighty waters.

11 Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?

12 Thou stretchedst out thy right hand, the earth swallowed them.

13 Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed: thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation.

14 The people shall hear, and be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Palestina.

15 Then the dukes of Edom shall be amazed; the mighty men of Moab, trembling shall take hold upon them; all the inhabitants of Canaan shall melt away.

16 Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of thine arm they shall be as still as a stone; till thy people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over, which thou hast purchased.

17 Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place, O LORD, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established.

18 The LORD shall reign for ever and ever.

19 For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and the LORD brought again the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea.

20 And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.

21 And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

Bitter Water Made Sweet

22 So Moses brought Israel from the Red sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.

23 And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah.

24 And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?

25 And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them,

26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.

27 And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water, and threescore and ten palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters.
